Overhead Services
Class 2C – Overhead Services
Installation of new overhead service mains
This involves installing an overhead cable from the network electricity pole to the Point of Attachment on the front of your premises. Generally, the main reason for a new overhead supply is upgrading from single phase to 3 phase to meet your electrical load requirements, or replacing old and damaged cables.
· Permanent Disconnections
During demolition or renovation projects, power supply will need to be removed completely to a property to ensure the safety of workers.
· Disconnection And Reconnection
Disconnection & Reconnection your overhead service at the network pole or at point of attachment. Generally, disconnection and reconnections are required when you are having work undertaken on your meter board or your consumer mains (the cables from the point of attachment on the front of your property, to your meter board). In some cases, you may require disconnection/reconnection if you’re having building works completed on your roof or during renovations.
Please note, if you require the power supply to be disconnected for more than 10 days, this requires a permanent disconnection.
· Barge Board Replacements
A barge board is a timber block mounted at the front of a property where your overhead service attaches to. These timber blocks can fail overtime due to timber rot.
· Temporary Builders Supply
We can provide temporary power to a builder’s switchboard during construction work on a property. This enables all contracting trades to continue to work until a permanent connection can be made.
· Barge Fuse Replacements
Ceramic barge fuses are mounted at the point of attachment of your property. These fuses are installed between the power service line and the customers consumers mains. Fuses are installed to protect the consumer mains from power overloads and fire hazards. Over time, the electrical contact between the fuse and fuse holder can become weak. This creates a ‘hot joint’, where there is small arcing between the two surfaces which heats up and ultimately fails.
· Installation of Private Poles
Private poles can be installed for many reasons. You may want to make your property more appealing and eliminate the Point of Attachment from the fascia. Private poles are also installed to gain height across a roadway to meet the minimum height requirements for vehicles. You may also need to install a private pole to rectify encroachment issues of your neighbour’s boundary. NSW Service and Installation Rules state that your overhead service cable may not cross neighbouring boundaries.
