Defect Notices

What is a Defect Notice?

A defect notice means that a part of the electricity supply to the property has become defective and requires attention to have it rectified by an electrical contractor. All connections to Ausgrid’s electricity network must comply with safety standards, including the NSW Electricity Supply Act 1995, the Electricity (Consumer Safety) Regulation 2006 and Ausgrid’s Network Standards.

Newcastle Electrical Project are authorised to repair electrical installations that do not comply with safety standards and are subject to defect notices by Ausgrid. As the property owner, you are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all privately-owned power poles and powerlines, which is from the first point of connection on your property to the switchboard or meter board.

Defect notices are issued for faulty wiring, modifications to the original connection, trees and branches growing too close to electrical wires, rusty or broken brackets, damaged Point of Attachments, loose connection boxes, rotten fascia boards, outdated switchboards, UV-damaged mains, attachment issues and low-running overhead service cables.

Any defects that are not repaired within 21 days after notification may result in electricity supply to the property being disconnected until repairs are completed to Ausgrid’s safety and service standards.
